In the winter of 2016, something extraordinary began inside the walls of Adullam Outreach. What started as a step of faith—building out a woodshop with the hope that it could create opportunity—soon became the launchpad for a business that would bless countless people: Custom Cottage Milwaukee.
Before Custom Cottage arrived, Adullam built a woodshop in faith, believing God would use it for more than just furniture—it would become a place for job creation, career development, mentoring, and community transformation. That prayer was answered when Coleman and Mary Moore of Grand Rapids, Michigan, felt led by God to expand their family’s business, Custom Cottage, into Milwaukee.
Custom Cottage is no ordinary woodworking shop. From the very beginning, its focus was not on profit, but on people. The vision was simple yet profound: to create beautiful, handcrafted furniture while offering meaningful employment to those who struggled to find stability elsewhere. Employees were given more than a job—they were given dignity, training, discipleship, and a supportive community.
When Coleman and Mary visited Adullam in 2016, they immediately felt God’s leading to bring their vision here. With their proposal, they committed to move to Milwaukee, set up shop at Adullam, and begin a new chapter of Custom Cottage. Their model of compassionate employment—where workers were rarely fired, but instead encouraged, mentored, and prayed for—was exactly in line with Adullam’s heart for holistic transformation.
Crafted with Vision: A Journey of Faith, Family, and Furniture
Since those humble beginnings, Custom Cottage Milwaukee has thrived. It weathered the storm of COVID-19, grew through tough seasons, and has now transitioned through four generations of ownership while continuing to serve Milwaukee with excellence. Today, the business is still producing beautiful custom furniture, employing local craftsmen, and carrying forward the same spirit of hope and purpose that sparked its beginning inside Adullam’s facility.
What began with a simple woodshop built in faith has become a thriving small business that not only provides jobs, but also inspires the community with its story. Custom Cottage stands as a reminder of what happens when vision, faith, and hard work come together—and how God can use even a simple shop to transform lives.
