Building Comfort, One Bed at a Time

This summer, through the dedicated efforts of the Youth groups who came to Adullam Outreach, we were able to transform our housing space in ways that will impact families and volunteers for years to come. The groups worked tirelessly to start and complete an ambitious project: building custom bunkbeds for our Family Warming Center. What began as an idea to maximize space became a reality thanks to their creativity, determination, and hard work.

To make the most of our facility, the teams engineered a unique three-system bunkbed design that allowed us to maximize capacity in each room. They spent time going through different architectural iterations, refining the structure, and ensuring the design would be both sturdy and long-lasting. Using raw wood and plywood, the Youth groups cut, sanded, and stained every piece by hand. A commercial-grade stain was applied to ensure the beds could withstand heavy use and remain durable for years to come.

Before the bunkbeds, space was extremely limited—mattresses were placed on the floor, and in seven rooms we could only house around 20 people. With the completion of these bunkbeds, our rooms can now comfortably accommodate over 50 people. This increase in capacity means we are better prepared to serve families seeking shelter during the winter months and provide space for Youth groups who visit throughout the year.

These newly transformed rooms stand as a testament to what can be accomplished when young people come together with purpose. What was once limited space has now become welcoming, vibrant, and functional housing—ready to serve families in need and continue hosting Youth groups in the future.

Youth in Action: Building for the Future

This summer, Youth groups from across the country partnered with Adullam Outreach to design and build custom three-tier bunkbeds for our Family Warming Center. What once held just 20 people across seven rooms can now comfortably house over 50, giving families and future Youth groups a safe and welcoming place to stay. The groups built the beds from scratch—cutting, sanding, and staining the wood—while also adding inspiring murals, encouraging messages, coat racks, and practical repairs to the rooms. Their hard work turned limited space into a vibrant, functional environment filled with hope and hospitality.

The project extended beyond just carpentry. The groups added thoughtful and inspiring touches to the rooms, painting uplifting murals on the walls and leaving encouraging messages on the bunkbeds themselves—words that will bring hope to every guest who stays with us. They also built coat racks, repaired doors, and made practical improvements that added both beauty and function to the space.
